Christians all too often are observed by the world to be standing around with their hands in their pockets wondering what to do, even fretful that God is far off and no longer concerned with them and what is going on in the world today. All too often we have forgotten our charge to be fishers of men: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” Acts 1:8. On Ascension Sunday we are also reminded that the angels told us: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11
On Ascension Sunday let’s be reminded that this same Jesus is coming again - and until then He desires us to stop staring into the clouds and rather be busy about His Father's business of winning souls!
