Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost

The headlines in corporate media, or any online news source you might follow, can generate in us a feeling of pessimism, maybe a bit forlorn. The days in which we live are characterized by St. Paul as living in the “midst of a crooked and perverse generation”. We find encouragement, however, in Psalm 67:1, which is our verse for the 11th Sunday after Pentecost: “May God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us.” Praying with you that God’s light will give you buoyancy and brightness this week. The result, as St. Paul continues in Philippians 2:15 is that we will “shine as lights in the world.” And as Jesus said so well: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
