Always About Chocolate

Seems it was always sweets! Every Lent the buzz around our family, and even amongst friends, was “What are you giving up for Lent?” And for many of us it seemed to always come down to giving up all sweets for the Lenten season. An admirable quest that both my mother and dentist no doubt appreciated!  But is God really that impressed with “giving something up” for the 40 days of Lent? Or is He looking for us to focus on weighter things, things like humility, justice, mercy, truth, obedience to His Word? The reading from this Sunday’s Lectionary is Psalm 25:8-10: “Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.
