Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost

Have you ever paused in the midst of your day to look up from the spreadsheet, the crushing load of email, the laptop with its incessant reminders: “Zoom call in 15 minutes with so and so about such and such”. No doubt each an important demand on your time - or is it?

The word “compose” comes from an etymological root of putting things together when you pause. When you pause in life you can think, contemplate, and yes even meditate on the greatness of God. The result is the ability to put together our thoughts, our day, our life’s message - declaring the greatness of God!

When you find some time to pause this week, follow the directive in our reading from this Sunday’s lectionary, the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost, which reads: “I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness.” Psalm 145:5-6
