Twenty Second SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

We often look for, and even crave, simplicity in the midst of the challenges life throws at us. This is also true for those who seek the right philosophy or religion to guide their life’s journey. Some revel in these complexities, and others are daunted by them resulting in a return to meandering through life with little direction. Jesus’ words in the reading from this Sunday’s lectionary provide the simplest and wisest guidance you need in the most difficult of situations for the right and proper path in life: “Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, ‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.’” Matthew 22:35-40 Use Jesus’ direction, His command, to pull your life away from the complexities that engulf all of us and embark on the godly path of loving God and loving our neighbor.
