Twenty third SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

There are times in life we might feel a bit directionaless, a bit like we are wandering on the wrong path, and this can result in a feeling of physical and spiritual weakness. Rest assured you are not alone as many have had this experience, even some of our heroes of the faith such as the Psalmist! He penned these words which are from this Sunday's reading: “They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way; they found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distress. And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city for a dwelling place.” Psalm 107:4-7 One of the aspects, if not disciplines, of prayer that we have forgotten in our modern hurry-up lifestyle is “crying out to the Lord”. The original word צָעַק means to cry out in distress and it carries the meaning of doing so loudly as the word was also associated with the sound of thunder. As you ponder this week’s reading may it result in a new urgency in your prayer life and crying out to the Lord for His deliverance from whatever distresses you might be facing.
